The following events/departments also need volunteers:
Team in Training - This program trains people to participate in marathons, half marathons, century rides and triathlons across the country. In exchange for training and support, participants help raise money towards cures for blood cancers like leukemia. They are looking for people to work as trainers or coaches for this program. They also would like help with office administration, and Public Relations.
Light the Night - This is a nationwide evening walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Participants carry illuminated balloons during a 2 mile walk, which includes entertainment, food, and activities. They are looking for people to help coordinate, plan and promote these events.
Man/Woman of the Year – This event identifies candidates to raise money in a 6 week anonymous competition for “Man and Woman” of the year. Volunteers are needed to join the nominating committee to help identify potential candidates.
School & Youth Program – Volunteers visit schools and teach kids about fundraising and blood cancers. They are provided materials, a curriculum and great incentives.
Patient Services - volunteers will have the opportunity to help in many aspects of supportive health services in the community. Their greatest need is volunteers for the Community Ambassador Program. Ambassadors represent LLS in their local community. They assist in increasing awareness and access to LLS services by bringing material to local hospitals, libraries and other community based venues; attending meetings and events that help promote the Society mission and resources; representing patient services at local health fairs, fundraising events, etc.
They also need volunteer assistance with:
- Database management
- public policy/advocacy efforts
- Motivational speaking with a relationship to cancer
