The fund started in 1948 when two baseball teams joined forces to help a 12- year- old cancer patient named “Jimmy.” The boy was dubbed this name to protect his privacy, and the name stuck. One of the teams visited “Jimmy” at the hospital and millions heard the visit on a national radio broadcast. Charity and offerings began to come in from everywhere and everyone, preparing for an effort that would continue to spread hope to all facing cancer for years to come. The fund provides for weddings, bridal showers, bat/ bar mitzvahs, etc. by creating party favors in honor of “hope”. Donate part of your special day to the Jimmy Fund by “making hope the guest of honor.” They are usually looking for a volunteer or donations, so visit their website to learn more!
