Generation Y-ers in Buffalo Work Towards a Cancer-Free World

I just got off the phone with Heidi, a very passionate employee at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY, about their non-profit project, Yroswell.  Heidi and I connected via Facebook – (see? it’s not just for college anymore) and had a great conversation about our respective organizations and the partnering we may be able to do.  The very least I can do is link to their site and post their positions.  Maybe this is the start of an OYFC Buffalo chapter!

So this means if you or anyone you know is from the Buffalo area, a) let me know for my own knowledge, and b) get on over to their Yroswell site and see the great things they are doing.  Their target audience is high school kids who are interested in careers in science and medicine, but they also do their best to get the kids involved in volunteer work.  Stay tuned for their listings on our site and be sure to check out their link which will permanantlyreside on the right hand side of OYFC’s site, with all my other faves.

As a side note, remember that there are a wealth of jobs in those links over there to the right.  They change almost daily and there are jobs available all over the country!  Real.  Paying.  Jobs.  In all fields.

Unfortunate as it is, we all know someone who has lost their job recently and may benefit from our site.  Spread the word and do your part to help the economy by shopping helping your friends find jobs!  (I’ll take care of stimulating the economy myself with the shopping part – check!)

Anyone need some qualified volunteers in the Boston area?

KKG Sister Connection Lives on

KKG Sister Connection Lives on

This morning I got an email from a sorority sister (Hi Brittany!  I was so excited hear from you!) with a really great point – she is looking for specific volunteer opportunities for her company and for herself.  In her own words:

“I wanted to let you know that our company (Health Advances, LLC) is out there and would be interested in any volunteer projects you are aware of.  Specifically, I am thinking of projects that groups of 4-5 volunteers (expertise ranging from BA level [like myself] to MDs and PhDs) could complete in a 10-hour time frame. Our Pro-Bono committee is currently collecting a list of opportunities to share with our 60+ person staff…”

She’s so right to bring this up… why does OYFC have to be one-way – organizations searching for employees/volunteers?  Why can’t it go both ways – those searching should be able to post exactly what kind of opportunities they are looking for.

So… anyone out there have some volunteer opportunities for Brittany and her team?  They are a healthcare consulting firm in Boston that does strategic consulting for companies across the industry.  BA’s, MD’s, and PHD’s… sounds like they’d be an asset to any team.

If you do, first of all why have you not called or emailed me to ask me to post the volunteer opps on our website (?!), and second, let me know if you do (email or phone is fine).  I won’t be mad I didn’t know about it before, promise. ;)

If anyone else is looking for a specific opportunity (volunteer or otherwise) please don’t hesitate to give me a call or shoot me an email.  Nothing would make me happier than to hear from an adoring fan.  Well, alright, you’ll do too.  Although I don’t always post positions on the site, I hear about things all the time.  Use me as a resource!
