Site updates!
Welcome to OYFC’s first blog post! We are so excited to have the capability to communicate with you like this. Expect informal updates on OYFC, information and updates from related organizations, ways that you can help and start your year for cancer, and whatever else may come up along the way. Also, have you noticed our website looks a little different? I now have the capability to update it myself. Amazing, right?!
None of this would have been possible without the help of Justin Peck – an amazing man who decided his way to make a difference in the cancer community was to help OYFC. Justin found us through a random online search, and he has dedicated his “year for cancer” to helping us get on our feet. Justin is a talented, knowledgeable (and sweet!) computer programmer who is starting his own non-profit organization, Uplift Labs. Here’s a little bit about Uplift Labs in his own words:
“I have never personally battled cancer, but like everyone I know I’ve been affected. I’ve lost way too many loved ones. I’ve been struggling lately with the feeling that I should be doing more good in the world, so I’m starting a new company called Uplift Labs. Uplift Labs will be an outlet for engineers, developers, designers, etc. to volunteer their time to help make the world a better place. Rather than spending my free time customizing another widget, or writing another tool plug-in, I want to use that time to be building a better future. I’m guessing others will too.”
Amazing, isn’t it? What a fantastic concept. We wish him all the luck in the world and many, many thanks.
